WHAT IS DRIVER CPC?
The Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) is a European Union wide Training Directive which has been introduced "to maintain high driving standards and improve road safety".
For lorry drivers the Driver CPC started on 10 September 2009.
All drivers must undertake 35 hours of training in every 5 year period and the first 35 hours of training must be completed by 9 September 2014.
This is known as Periodic Training.
There are various 3.5 hour modules that can be mixed and matched to create different courses.
The minimum length of a training course that contributes to the Periodic Training requirement is 7 hours.
All drivers are issued with a Certificate of Training for each 7 hours completed
Driver CPC training courses are "legal events" and drivers must be able to prove identity.
